BONDU

2025

Bondu was the final project of my master's degree in Digital Experience Design, developed with teammates Cèlia, Karina and Natalia under the theme of vulnerability in minority groups. We focused on immigrants — and through surveys and interviews, found that their most prominent challenge isn't practical but emotional: loneliness, and the longing for the people they left behind.

Our research pointed to a specific barrier: time difference. 93% of respondents named different time zones as the main difficulty in staying connected, and over 50% believed better coordination would strengthen their relationships. That insight became the foundation of our solution.

We designed an app where users sync their calendars, set their time zones, and add the contacts they want to stay close with. An algorithm identifies overlapping availabilities and suggests connection moments — users can send requests and schedule calls that land automatically in both calendars. The app also shows who's available to chat right now.

To reduce friction, we chose WhatsApp as the default communication method, since 99% of our respondents use it to contact their loved ones. Bondu handles the scheduling so the emotional labor of long-distance relationships feels lighter.

Alongside the app, we created a landing page to present Bondu's concept and values in a warm, inviting tone.

Bondu is a product rooted in purpose. Working on it meant building real empathy for the people we were designing for — a reminder that the best design comes from genuinely caring about the problem. I also created a short promotional video in Jitter to bring the app to life.
